  • Added Groups to group data in bases by a given property. Available in the "Sort menu."
  • Added Summaries to table view. To use them, right-click a table column and choose "Summarize...". Choose from the list of built-in summary functions, or write your own.
  • Added keyboard navigation and shortcuts to table view.
  • New List view to display files as bulleted lists and numbered lists. Supports multi-line content and indenting properties.

  • Initial Bases API.

Mobile app opens soooo fast now! This is incredible!

danrhodes198721 points

Was just going to post the same you can really see the difference in opening times

broomlad9 points

Strange. I double-checked and I'm on 1.10 but I haven't noticed a difference in how long it takes to load the app.

patrakar_popatlal1 points

Same here. No difference

YouTube fix?

kepano40 points

Yes

Toto_Anglais7 points

This is great news

frberhr5u52 points

awesome news, thank you!!

YankeeNoodleDaddy6 points

What YouTube fix?

mightypea4 points

YouTube's been giving embed errors, on Obsidian but also elsewhere (discourse for instance).

Anubis_Omega21 points

Map view is really interesting

YankeeNoodleDaddy4 points

I wonder what the main use case to inspire this feature

Director_Of_Mischief14 points

Does there need to be one? It's a fundamental law that everything happens somewhere; spatial relationships influence history, society, and data analysis.

It makes sense for an app that focuses on finding links and relationships to include an option for users to discover geographical patterns as well. After all, Tobler's first law of geography states that "everything is related to everything else, but near things are more related than distant things" which, to me, fits Obsidian's mindset perfectly.

Love this feature and will definitely be implementing it!

YankeeNoodleDaddy1 points

You described a use case, so youre right

henry_tennenbaum1 points

It is, but doesn't work for me (on Linux) right now. Tiles aren't loaded.

DannieBGoode42 points

please give us Kanban / Board view, is the last missing piece to leave Notion behind

tjtrewin6 points

It's on the roadmap!

tomByrer2 points

Bases: Card View
Add an extra field for what card lane you want it to be in.

Plenty_Ad60053 points

Thats a good idea. Not sure I fully understand. Can you please elaborate? Thank you!

prwnR3 points

With the grouping feature added in this version, you can group cards into lanes by a specific property/value.

It's not exactly a Kanban view, but can work as such for the time being.

Amocon3 points

There is a Kanban community plugin

JoSquarebox5 points

The community plugin (funnily enough made by u /kepano iirc) is just an alternate view for markdown checkboxes inside a note, with an opion in bases we would basically be indexing and manipulating all tasks inside the entire vault instead

DannieBGoode1 points

I am using a plugin for now but it's not as smooth, I'd like a native solution

Plenty_Ad60051 points

TaskNotes Kanban view in Base has taken off (its good) and is pretty much functioning as the unofficial “official version”. Not sure what incentive Developers now have to roll out their own version.

kerat11 points

Could you not just integrate the Homepage plugin into obsidian? I just want to open the same page each time instead of the last used file. I assume this should be a simple option to add & would allow users to load 1 plugin less

JoSquarebox4 points

I second this, I am already tempted to just shift my entire workflow to using the daily note on startup as a homepage instead, since thats natively supported.

colt_divinely20 points

The opening speed increase on mobile is very good but could be even better if you chose on which note the app will open because often the last opened page isn't what you want to have

ooglybooglies15 points

A setting for default opening page would be interesting. Could either select a specific page, last modified, etc.

geGamedev3 points

Would (one of) the homepage plugin(s) solve that? Or would the plugin load too late to effect anything?

Emiroda2 points

Currently, when using a home page plugin on mobile, it opens the latest note (as per the new default behavior), then a second later it jumps to the home page set in the plugin.

So I have disabled my home page plugin on mobile for the time being.

Gjessing11 points

Just disable 'Open on startup' in the homepage plugin settings and it should stay where you left off.

TutorialDoctor5 points

Thanks! So excited to update my vaults with these features!

frberhr5u56 points

wow, thank you! mobile app is really opening faster

AiHsuanKr5 points

With so many people hyping the faster startup, which led me to half-joke, "Oh great, another one of those Google Pixel phone updates that magically get better battery life, right" 😉
After actually installing it, I realized the startup is noticeably faster— This upgrade is seriously impressive and impactful!!😍

TheLexikitty9 points

fantabulous 💞

andrers6 points

made me chuckle. my daughter says that all the time (she's four)

danrhodes19874 points

Thank you for this 🙏👌

Omfg so many candies nom nom nom!!

prwnR4 points

I love the new List view for bases and grouping.

Bases rocks.

elephantalk4 points

Grouping is great.

CuriousDarkknight4 points

I have just discovered the "Maps" plugin from obsidian itself, it is awesome.

alfonzoo4 points

are there any plans to revise the "Copy as Text" function of Bases? right now the List view also produces a Markdown table when I thought it'd be a bulleted list.

kepano9 points

Good point! We'll look into that.

der-bingle4 points

Just took two screen recordings to compare launch speed before, and after the update. iPhone 15 Pro, 6,000+ note vault:

  • BEFORE: 3.8 seconds
  • AFTER: 1.1 seconds

Congrats and thank you for a 71% IMPROVEMENT!

Notesie3 points

Im having the opposite experience — slow loading mobile files and delay in application of Style Settings. Reindexing didnt help. Restarting didnt help. Restarting device didnt help. Edit: all plugins up to date

kepano7 points

Try turning off plugins and re-enabling them one by one. It's likely you have a plugin that is trying to do something unexpected at startup (e.g. Lazy Loader, Homepage, etc)

Notesie1 points

I forgot about that! Thanks for the reminder.

Notesie1 points

It didnt work. It just got slower and slower the more plugins I added. I think I currently have about 12 loaded.

titz4tat3 points

List view + groups is a game changer for task management

Mistereddy_3 points

Bit of a noob here. Could I use the new map view for my own maps? Say Dungeons and dragons world maps for example?

N1tero5 points

As always, great work!

I'm wondering though, why isn't map view a core plugin?

kepano39 points

It's similar to Importer which is an official community plugin.

Maps in particular provides an open source example for developers who want to use the Bases API. Maps also uses with a somewhat large third-party library (MapLibre) which increases the bundle size and may not be useful to all Obsidian users. Keeping it separate keeps the app more lightweight for people who don't need maps.

gklj978610 points

As usual, obsidian product strategy is coherent, transparent and sustainable.

I haven't heard of this. Is there a bug report on the forum?

I've had this problem too, through testing I found that some CSS which targeted bases slowed things down (for me at least). Turning it off made it (almost) go away. Though, dragging files / images it still lags if there is a large base currently visible. So try and see if it goes away if you disable all your CSS files or theme.

Summaries and maps are gonna be huuuge

jlwee2 points

When can we freeze the first column. Huhu please

Eolipila2 points

Looking at the roadmap, it seems that most items on the "active development" were delivered with this this update. I'm curious when the roadmap will see an update - any of the items currently under "planned" will make me happy.

Eolipila1 points

P.S.,

The roadmap was updated. None of the "planned" features made it to the "active" status, which is, alas, a wee-bit disappointing. Looks like the focus now is on mobile, and we'll have to wait longer for new features.

muze3k2 points

What is the html() function thing they've added in improvement?? Can someone tell.. It says added new html() function for rendering custom html.. But like how do I use it? I'm noob need help..

dumbass_laundry2 points

For this kind of thing and any other function references in Obsidian, the docs are your best friend. Here's the link to their official docs: https://help.obsidian.md/bases/functions#%60html()%60

Double_Simple_28662 points

Does this update replace the lazy plugin loader?

_Cal1ban2 points

Hi, quick question

Is there a way to collapse a group in bases?

SparklingSliver2 points

Can't wait for all the new base view plugin!!!!

Little_Bishop12 points

Itll be cool if we had either Google Maps or Apple Maps integration, awesome work tho!

kepano13 points

What do you mean by this? What would the integration do?

albertpaca111 points

open in apple maps? if i want to see the reviews or share with others

kepano9 points

You can already do this by creating a formula that links to Apple Maps.

Little_Bishop11 points

Thats awesome, thanks!

  • Fixed YouTube displaying "Error 153" when embedding videos.

For god sake and can resume my life now!

interesting ! how does the maps plugin compare to the Map View plugin ? are those compatible ?

ellismjones1 points

You guys are awesome !!

hlrdesign1 points

How do I remove the link icons that appear now with links in obsidian t appears next to all the properties that link to a page or next to items in basesi

kepano1 points

This isn't new, right?

hlrdesign1 points

Idk it appeared after the update. I have seen some css snippets but i dont know the specific one for bases & internal links to remove the icon

LongNgN1 points

nice

Effective_Pitch_29741 points

Are there any plans to bring Maps to feature parity with the Map View plugin by esm? Or possibly a collaboration to merge the 2 plugins?

Organic_Challenge1511 points

The iOS app kinda is broken now, after opening it, it constantly refreshes and reopens itself.

Im using it to open vault stored in iCloud as I always do

kepano1 points

It's likely a plugin issue. Try disabling plugins. If you still have trouble, open a bug on the forum

Organic_Challenge1511 points

I opened the vault again with the restricted mode and its still not working. Guess Ill gonna post it on the forum

EmperorDante1 points

iOS now have new keyboard , looks great

TheKingofHellZoro1 points

I'm confused a little, I selected a random cell in my base table and pressed enter. Then the whole base got replaced by another one of my Bases?

[deleted]0 points

It's the first item in the changelog. The "Use light mode" and "Use dark mode" commands have been replaced by a single "Toggle light/dark mode" command.

kepano1 points

NexusDarkshade1 points

Finally, list bases. Mostly invalidates the CSS I was in the middle of writing so I don't accidentally break my bases/files, but at least I can keep the part that hides the editor buttons in the header.

BubblyJellyfish57811 points

Hey. I'm very impressed by the new launching speed. But when will I see the button on mobile to select the multiple files and delete at once? The delete functions right now is so clumsy and I have to one by one hold the notes to delete the multiple. It would really helpful if I can do that when i just wanna take quick note without keyboard 😀

CihanKaygusuz1 points

What's the point of changing "Use dark mode/light mode" commands? Mine is gone, hotkeys also gone. I just replaced again but now there is only one hotkey option. Same hotkey switching light and dark mode. I use "CTRL+1" when i press that if it's light, going to dark. If it's dark, going to light. This will require some time to rebuild my muscle memory but it's ok.

OstrakaSystems1 points

Thank you for fixing the embedded Youtube error 153 issue!

sapegin1 points

Sadly, the app almost never loads for me on iPhone 12 mini, and I have like three small plugins enabled ;-(
