Description: [[Sidney George Cartwright|Sidney George Cartwright]] standing in the doorway of the family jewellers shop at [[31 George Street, Newcastle-under-Lyme|31 George Street, Newcastle-under-Lyme]]. Born in 1897 he followed in his father John's footsteps as a watchmaker and jeweller. Between 1921 and 1930 Sidney, his brother [[John Walter Cartwright|John Walter]] and his sister [[Annie May Cartwright|Annie May]] formed [[Cartwright Bros.|Cartwright Bros.]] who ran two shops at 31, George Street and [[1 Cheapside, Hanley|1, Cheapside]]. After 1931, John Walter and his son[[J.W.Cartwright & Son Ltd.|(1)]] ran the Cheapside shop until it closed in 1989 while Sidney took over the George Street shop and later opened a second shop on Merriel Street and ran them both until his death in 1956.
